 Gothic

One of my favorite works of Gothic architecture is Notre Dame, which is located in Paris; it was built in 1163. This building is well known since it was featured in The movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

the Cathedral of Notre Dame

It primarily centered in Paris during the Gothic period, and most churches were made of Gothic style.

The Gothic style came to form the Romanesque style of the introduction of the pointed Arch, Ribbed Vaulr and Fly buttress

This is the design arch known as the Fly buttress

In Gothic churches, you can see in the interior Stained glass windows that can have, at times, images of an Apostle or a saint as a way to showcase their faith and religion you can also find that most cathedrals have either a Rib vault or a Groin vault in the architecture design.

this is the St. Denis Cathedral in France. It was built in the year 1130, which confirms a bit more of how Frances was primarily the center of the Gothic period.

this is a building that you can see in Yale that is inspired by Gothic architecture as part of their Gothic revival

another is the Sacred Heart church that is in Koszeg, Hungary

One can use many styles of Gothic interior design in one's home.

one step further

Abbot Suger was born in the year 1081 and died on January 13, 1151
he worked as an adviser for King Louis VI and VII and supervised rebuilding the abbey church of Saint-Denis with Gothic-style architecture by his design. It was completed by the year of 1144. He wasn't born into wealth. Both of his parents were peasants as a child. Suger showcases that he had a high interest in the year 1091 when he was educated by the monks of the Abbey of saint-denis which is how he met Louis Capet, who became King Louis VI, who later helped Abbot Suger, became his adviser later in life.

  4. Irma,
I love how you narrated the story of how Gothic design came forth and the features that make it unmistakable. You provided us with many interesting examples of Gothic design. Your example of the modern interior that reflects Gothic design was great. The moody colors and arched windows and vaulted ceilings transport us to that period. Great job! 50/50 points
