Prehistory

Many people believe that some of the artifacts we find are the oldest artifacts, but in truth, they aren't. The textbook states, "The oldest known artifact dates back two and a half million years." We can be confident that caves were the architecture of the Stone Age since architecture provides shelter to protect habitats from the hazardous world of the outdoors, including bad weather and dangerous animals.

For example, many homes were built out of stone during the Neolithic period, much like this image of a house made of stone.

A famous piece of architecture that significantly represents the Neolithic period is the Stonehenge monument, which has lasted for many years and dramatically shows an integral part of our past. It shows how far we have come in improving architectural skills.

This is another example of a cave-like house built during the Neolithic period surrounded by stone. It contains everything people needed for that time: shelter from the outside weather and protection from dangerous animals.

I chose this image because it is a modern version of a house based on the Neolithic period.  This style of architecture is called Neolithic Revival; it was made by the Architect Alberto Vasquez in Texas near the Guadalupe River. It represents the Neolithic period because it was made of stone, which is how architecture was mainly made of stone.

The castle image atop is another example of Neolithic Architecture that had stayed in good condition all this time.

  3. Hey Irma! I found it funny that we both chose the same house based in Texas! I think another fun fact is that this house is currently for sale for a little over four million dollars! There surely is a neolithic revival.

  4. Hi Irma! I really loved your mention of the Stonehenge, because I also included that in my blog. I found it very interesting and mysterious, because we don't know the true purpose of why it was built. Also, I'd like to mention how much I love the modern images and applications you chose for this unit, specifically the stone house.
