Early Christian and Byzantine

One of the oldest Christian builds is the church house since it was vital for them to have a place where they could worship God and practice their rituals and prayer. This building was made before christianity was legalized and had to be secret since they couldn't worship in public so all of them were made in homes and some were donated by wealthy chrisdtians that were able to build to worship God the homes of the wealthy chirstian donated were called domus ecclesiae this builds could hold 50 people at that time.

this building can be found in Nocera Umbra Italy

During the time of Emperore Diodetian rule since Christianity monotheistic belief wasn't respected the emperore persecuted many Christians during the period of 303 to 305 C.E

The catacombs were build in order to bury dead bodies of Chirstians during the time that Christianity was but later on the church start to to bury the dead above the catacomb after chirstianity became legal.

  1. Hi Irma! I loved your highlights of the catacombs and of the mosaic face in this week's blog. I think these images emphasize two very important parts of the Early Christian and Byzantine eras. Great work!

  2. Hey Irma! I was also going to incorporate the modern catacombs in my blog since they are so interesting. I did incorporate the modern mosaics because its fascinating to see how far the art of that time period has come.
